John began playing trumpet at the age of seven and has continued to play throughout his life. He has performed in a wide variety of groups during his musical career.
As a member of the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble (1978 through 1981), he toured Europe in the summer of 1980 and, on one occasion, performed under the direction of Aaron Copland.
He was a member of the Lakeland Civic Band and the Hillcrest Concert Band (Cleveland, Ohio) from 1982 through mid 1987.
After moving back to Delaware, he performed with the Newark Community Band and the Salem County Brass Society from 1987 through 1994.
In early 1995, John relocated to Sydney, Australia and performed with the City of Sydney Wind Ensemble and the Holroyd Brass Band. The City of Sydney Wind Ensemble was 1996 Australia Concert Band Champion (Grade A) and won two New South Wales Concert Band competitions (Grade A) in 1996 and 1997.
In March, 1998, John relocated to the USA and rejoined the Salem County Brass Society. In 2013, he joined the Stargazer Brass Quintet and is currently a member of both of these groups.
In September 2015, John had the thrill of becoming the Track Bugler for Opening Weekend at Belmont Park, where he fully utilized his herald trumpet.
