Jonathan Wittman is a graduate of the University of Delaware where he earned degrees in Biolgy (BA, 1975), Music Education (BMuEd, 1978) and Trumpet Performance (Masters, 1992).
Upon graduation in 1978, Jonathan began his career as a music teacher at Mannington Township (NJ) School. In 1979 he continued his teaching career as a Junior High School Band Director in the state of Delaware. In 1981 he began teaching high school, and has been a high school band director ever since (with the exception of one year).
He has taught at Middletown, Wilmington, Christiana, Glasgow, and now Newark, where he has been since 1995. In the fall of 1978, Jonathan joined the newly formed First State Symphonic Band and was named principal trumpet, a post which he maintained until 1999 when he was promoted to that group's Music Director. He has continued as their Musical Director to this date.
Jonathan has also played with the Newark Brass Quintet and Small Wonder Brass Quintet in Delaware. He is a charter member of the Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band, and now performs with the Salem County Brass Society as well as a free-lance artist in varoius venues.
