The Fort Delaware Cornet Band will present “Music of the Victorian Era” at the next Music Around the County concert 3 p.m. Sunday, March 31 at the First Presbyterian Church in Salem.
The Fort Delaware Cornet Band represents an impression of the original Artillery Brass Band that was in residence at Fort Delaware during the Civil War. Led by Woodstown High School band director Jim Ludlam, the band performs on original and replica Civil War-era instruments and is composed of local music educators and other musicians. The majority of the members are descendants of Union veterans and they perform at balls, concerts and educational events throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
The concert will feature music from the Hazleton, Pa., Liberty Band. Handwritten books from the Hazleton Band were found in an attic in the early 1990s and the music has been transcribed so that it can be heard by modern audiences. Some of the music has not been performed/heard for more than a century!
Admission to the concert is free. The First Presbyterian Church is located at 88 Market St. For information visit www.scartsalliance.org/home
